The Arc to Purchase Land for KidStart Relocation
At its Wednesday, October 28 meeting,
The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming Board of
Directors unanimously passed a
resolution to pursue the purchase of 7.5
acres of land intended as the future
home for primary services of its
KidStart children's services program.
The land is located on Route 63 in the
Town of Groveland, 4 miles south of the
village of Geneseo. The parcel is
generally across the road from the
Livingston County property known as
Hampton Corners.
Under the resolution, The Arc agrees to
purchase the land from its current
landowner, Harold Stewart. The site
is equipped for all utilities.
"This is a significant step toward our
goal of finding a better replacement for
the Holcomb Building," says Chris
Peterson, Executive Director for The
Arc of Livingston-Wyoming. "This new
site allows us room for plenty of
parking, spacious playgrounds, and the
ability to expand."
In 2011, KidStart’s current home at SUNY
Geneseo's Holcomb Building will no
longer be available, due to new
construction by the college. In order to
continue providing quality early
childhood programs, The Arc is
responding with a multi-million dollar
plan for a new KidStart site with the
needed 30,000+ square feet of new
construction.
Annually, KidStart services touch the
lives of more than 300 children with and
without disabilities, ranging from 6
weeks to 12 years old, through Day Care,
Early Intervention, Evaluation Services,
Head Start, School Age, and Special
Services Preschool programs.
